A Collaborative Positive Behavior Support Approach
Orimaco Resources implements Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies to help supported individuals decrease problem behaviour while improving their quality of life. PBS is a science-based approach that incorporates proactive, reinforcement-based interventions to teach skills that are meaningful and sustainable. When necessary, the Orimaco team collaborates with Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs) and behaviour consultants to complete Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA). The FBA describes the problem behaviors, identifies the contexts events, times, and situations that predict when behavior will and will not occur to determine the triggers and what reinforcers are maintaining the behaviour. The FBA also informs the Positive Behaviour Support plan so that the most effective strategies can be implemented. As well as teaming with BCBAs, the Orimaco team collaborates with other professionals including psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists and mental health support teams to develop and execute support plans tailored to each individual’s goals - typically including communication and social skill development, life skills, and self-management and self-regulation strategies. The Orimaco Resources team approach incorporates the principals of trauma informed care – safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.
